Complaint number: 13-002612

Incident Type:        Criminal Sexual Conduct

Date Occurred:       3-5-2013

Location:  An apartment in the 1900 Block of Nazareth Road

Suspect:  Anthony Demar Williams, DOB 6-27-1992, 21 years old of Kalamazoo

Incident Summary: In late July, Township officers received a report that a 17 year old Kalamazoo teenager had
been the victim of a sexual assault by a then 20 year old Kalamazoo Township man.  Following an investigation,
the case was sent to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.  The Prosecutor authorized a
complaint alleging Anthony Demar Williams sexually assaulted the 17 year old female at his apartment and that
the assault resulted in her becoming pregnant.  It is also alleged that the assault occurred while Williams was an
employee of the school the victim attended.  At the time of the alleged assault, Williams was a security officer at
Loy Norrix High School and the victim was a student there.  On 8-27-2013, Magistrate Nicholas Schaberg of
the 8th District Court issued an arrest warrant for Williams based on that complaint charging him with one count
of 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.  On the morning of 8-28-
2013, Williams surrendered at the Kalamazoo Township Police Department, was arrested on the warrant and
lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.  He is expected to be arraigned on 8-28-2013.

Complaint number:    13-002971

Incident Type:           Fatal shooting

Date Occurred:   8-24-2013   Time: Approximately 12:20 a.m.

Location:  3500 Block of Market Street

Victim:  24 year old man from South Carolina

Incident Summary:
Kalamazoo Township Police received a 911 call reporting a man had been shot in the 3500 Block of Market
Street and was being transported by private vehicle to Borgess Medical Center.  Township officers were
already at Borgess on an unrelated call.  Shortly thereafter a Ford F250 Super Duty truck arrived at the
Borgess Emergency Department with several occupants.  Officers determined one of them, a 24-year old man
from South Carolina, had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.  Medical staff treated him for his injuries,
however he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter by an Emergency Department physician.

Based on information received from the other four people in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and the
physical evidence available, it appears at this time the deceased man inflicted the gunshot wound to his own
head as the vehicle was being driven in the 3500 Block of Market Street with a pistol he had been handling.
The deceased was riding in the back seat of the four-door vehicle at the time.  Township officers are continuing
their investigation.  As a part of that investigation, the victim was transported to Sparrow Hospital for an
autopsy.  The victim’s identity is not being released at this time pending notification of his family.
