Suspect:        Terence Alvin Bell, 32 years old (DOB 1-15-1979), of Kalamazoo

Victim:           A 17 year old female Kalamazoo resident

 
Incident Summary:        

Township Police were informed of the possibility of a series of sexual assaults involving an employee of the
Kalamazoo Public Schools and a student of the same district.  The suspect does not work at the same
school building in which the victim attends classes.  As a result of this investigation, information was
presented to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office.  A five-count complaint was authorized by that
office and an arrest warrant was issued on the same charges by the Honorable Nicholas Schaberg,
magistrate for the 8th District Court.  The complaint alleges three counts of criminal sexual conduct in the
3rd degree for penetration, the victim being a student receiving special education services by an employee
of the same school district; one count of criminal sexual conduct in the 3rd degree for penetration by force
or coercion and one count of criminal sexual conduct in the 4th degree for contact, the victim being a
student receiving special education services by an employee of the same school district.  The victim, who
was 16 and 17 years of age during the time these crimes are alleged, and the suspect are the same in each
count.  The case remains under investigation.

The Township Police were informed that Mr. Bell turned himself in on the charges at the 8th District Court
this morning.

Additional Info:        

Mr. Bell was arraigned this morning before District Judge Ann Blatchford.  Bond was set at $10,000
cash/surety and remanded to the custody of the Sheriff.  His preliminary examination has been set for May
18.

LOCATION OCCURRED:   Intersection of Gull Road and Nazareth Road, Kalamazoo Township


VICTIM INFO:                 44 Year old Kalamazoo man


INCIDENT SUMMARY:

A 44 year old Kalamazoo man was riding a motorcycle West-bound on Gull Road near Nazareth Road.  As
he approached the intersection he collided with a vehicle which was traveling East-bound on Gull Road,
driven by a 19 year old Kalamazoo woman.  The motorcyclist was transported to Borgess Medical Center,
and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.  The Kalamazoo Township Police Department was assisted
by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, as well as the Kalamazoo Township Fire Department.  The
incident is still under investigation.  Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is asked
